Bangladesh, as a maritime nation endowed with a vast Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), continental shelf and rich marine resources, stands at a critical crossroads of opportunity and responsibility. While the oceans offer immense potential for national development, they also present pressing challenges related to climate change, coastal hazards, marine pollution and sustainable resource use. The Faculty of Oceanography at Patuakhali Science and Technology Deltin 7 Aviator গেম টাকা ইনকাম (PSTU) was established to address these challenges through quality education, advanced research and informed policy support in ocean and coastal management.
Situated in close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, PSTU enjoys a unique geographical advantage that strengthens its role in oceanographic education and research. The Faculty of Oceanography represents a significant milestone in advancing ocean-based learning, innovation and scientific inquiry for coastal Bangladesh and beyond. Envisioned as a hub of interdisciplinary excellence, the faculty connects regional marine realities with modern scientific knowledge and emerging technologies.
Our academic programs adopt a multidisciplinary approach, integrating physical, chemical, biological and geological oceanography alongside hydrography, hydrodynamics, ocean modelling, climate-ocean interactions, marine environmental studies, coastal processes, marine spatial planning and blue economy perspectives. Equal emphasis is placed on classroom instruction, laboratory experimentation, field-based training and research activities. This balanced framework enables students to develop strong analytical abilities, practical skills, professional ethics, and a problem-solving mindset suited to real-world challenges.
Historical Background and Establishment
The establishment of the Faculty of Oceanography is rooted in a national vision to explore and sustainably utilize Bangladesh’s “Blue Frontier.” The journey began with foundational approval from the Deltin 7 Aviator গেম টাকা ইনকাম Grants Commission (UGC) for marine-focused academic and research development at PSTU, alongside a national directive to prioritize Blue Economy oriented education and internationally benchmarked research facilities. Following these initiatives, the proposal for establishing the Faculty of Oceanography was formally recommended by the Deltin 7 Aviator গেম টাকা ইনকাম’s Academic Council and subsequently approved by the Regent Board. Located in Bangladesh’s south-central coastal belt, PSTU serves as a natural laboratory for studying ocean circulation, oceanic and estuarine processes in the Bay of Bengal. The Faculty of Oceanography actively promotes research in collaboration with government agencies, research institutions, industry, international collaborators and local stakeholders to understand the world oceans to support sustainable blue economy planning and improved human livelihoods.
